Fundamentals of FR > Maintenance of a FRC Program

MAINTENANCE OF A FRC PROGRAM

Once a program has been established it is important that the flame resistant garments are used and maintained properly. Education of the wearers is critical for the success of a program. Education on the protection provided, the functions served, the proper use, care & maintenance and even the limitations of the flame resistant fabrics/garments.

Proper Use
  1. FRC should be appropriate to hazard
  2. Always the outermost layer
  3. Worn correctly; zipped, buttoned, etc
  4. All natural, non-melting undergarments
  5. Clean, no flammable contaminants
  6. Repaired correctly and removed from service when needed
Care & Maintenance
  1. Garments should be cleaned to maximize performance
  2. Contaminants can "mask" or negate flame resistance
  3. Care choices
    1. Home laundry
    2. Industrial Laundry
    3. On-Site
    4. Dry-cleaning
